Hydro Jetting in Studio City

For drain and sewer lines in Studio City with heavy buildup, Mr. Pipe Plumbing offers hydro jetting, in single-family houses and in apartment and condo buildings. In a large building, a single kitchen line can carry the grease of many apartments, and the layer it leaves on the pipe wall is the buildup jetting is meant for. We check the pipe's condition, the blockage and the access before recommending it.

In Studio City

Many kitchens, one line

Close to 3 in 10 Studio City homes, about 29%, sit in buildings with at least 20 units, the U.S. Census Bureau's 2024 American Community Survey shows. In a building that size, the kitchens of many units drain into lines they share, so the grease from all of them lands on the same stretch of pipe. A kitchen line under that kind of use builds up faster than a quiet one.

Houses are the other large group in Studio City, at about 44% of homes in the same Census figures, against about 52% in buildings with five or more units. A house's main line carries everything one household sends down, and a clog there can slow several drains at the same time. The buildup in it can be grease, sludge or roots, and the pipe's condition decides whether jetting fits.

Where the jetter goes in

At a house, the hose goes in through an accessible cleanout on the main line, once we have looked at the pipe and what is blocking it. At an apartment or condo building, we first work out which units are backing up and which cleanout reaches the shared stretch that serves them, because access decides how much of the line we can clean. In both cases the pipe has to be sound enough for the pressure. A collapsed or badly broken line is not one we jet; we explain what we found and talk through repair options. When the jetting is finished, we tell you what came out of the line.

How long do the results of hydro jetting last?

There is no set answer. Jetting takes off the grease and sludge a snake leaves on the pipe wall, so the line starts over from a cleaner state. How long it stays that way depends on what goes down the drain and on the pipe itself: heavy-use kitchen lines build up again sooner, and pipe damage can bring problems back.

What is hydro jetting, and how does it work?

It is a way of cleaning a drain or sewer line with water at high pressure. We feed the hose in from an accessible cleanout, and the spray works on the pipe wall itself, scouring off grease, sludge and other buildup. On a line in good enough condition, it can also clear certain root intrusion. It does not repair a damaged pipe.

What does the cost of hydro jetting depend on?

A price for jetting comes after we have seen the line, since that look decides whether jetting is the right call at all. Pricing depends on the plumbing condition, accessibility, materials, and actual scope of work. If additional work is discovered, it will be explained and approved before proceeding.

What LA Sanitation says about grease and roots

LA Sanitation says more than half of sewer backups are caused by tree roots and poured fats, oils and grease. It describes how the grease builds up: poured down household drains, fats, oils and grease cool, solidify and stick to the inside walls of sewer pipes, and over time the buildup restricts wastewater flow until it eventually causes sewer overflows in homes.

That layer on the inside of the pipe is the buildup hydro jetting is meant to remove. When an accessible line is in a condition to take it, high-pressure water scrubs grease and sludge off the wall, and it can clear certain root intrusion. LA Sanitation's advice for the kitchen is to keep cooking grease out of the sink and the garbage disposal altogether: scrape food leftovers into the trash, and pour cooled grease into a sealed container in the black trash bin.

Know what happens next

  1. Discuss and assess

Our goal is to identify the cause of the problem and recommend an appropriate repair based on the plumbing condition, accessibility, and scope of work.

  2. Findings and estimate

We assess the issue, explain our findings, and provide an estimate before any approved work begins.

  3. Work completed and confirmed

After approved work is completed, we test the repaired or installed plumbing where applicable, explain the completed work, and provide the customer or authorized contact with the appropriate service documentation.

“Extremely communicative, easy to work with, and did the job properly. Price was fair but I like that there was no BS surprise charges or addons ‑ what I was initially quoted was exactly what I paid. Will work with them again in the future.”
