Sewer Repair & Replacement in North Hollywood

Mr. Pipe Plumbing takes on North Hollywood sewer repair and replacement, from a short damaged section up to long runs. At one property our crew replaced 45 feet of line by pipe bursting; on a 300‑foot project, the crew burst 200 feet and lined another 100. The condition of each stretch and the access to it decide which methods a line can take.

In North Hollywood

Three hundred feet, two methods

One North Hollywood job did not stick to a single method. Part of the run was replaced by pipe bursting and part was rehabilitated with lining, so both trenchless approaches ran on the same project.

U.S. Census Bureau figures for 2024 put about 32% of homes in the North Hollywood ZIP-code areas in buildings of 20 or more units, and they count about 72% of occupied homes as rented.

Those numbers change how a sewer job starts. A tenant may be the one describing the backup, while the owner or manager approves the work. On a long or shared line, we explain which approach fits each stretch, so the decision covers the whole run as well as the worst spot.

Where the access points go

Both trenchless methods are worked from access points instead of a trench along the whole run. Lining goes in through one, and only into a host pipe in good enough shape to hold it. Bursting needs workable access at each end of the stretch being replaced, and the path of the line and anything running near it also decide whether it works.

A job can also leave a new cleanout behind, as one of our North Hollywood replacements did, so the line can be reached for maintenance later. Where the ground, the path or the pipe rules trenchless out, excavation is the alternative, and we explain why before anything is approved.

Trenchless work is not our default and it is not available on every line. Where it is an option, we say so. Where the condition of the pipe or the access rules it out, we explain why and what the alternative involves.

How long does a sewer line usually last?

There is no fixed lifespan we can quote. Pipe material, soil, roots and earlier repairs all play in. In the North Hollywood ZIP-code areas, U.S. Census Bureau estimates for 2024 date about 38% of homes to before 1960, yet a home's age does not tell us how much of its sewer line is original. The condition of the accessible sections is what we go on.

Could my sewer line have been damaged for months without me knowing?

It is possible. Cracks and separated joints can leak into the ground for some time before a backup shows indoors. Clues include a sewage odor near a cleanout, a patch of yard that stays soft, sinks or looks greener, and drains that gurgle when another fixture runs. Any of these is worth a call, though none proves the cause.

How much time should we plan for a sewer replacement?

How long a replacement takes gets answered after we see the line, because a 300‑foot run and a short section are very different jobs. Length, depth, the method each stretch can take and what has to be opened along the way all set the schedule. We lay out what the work involves and the order it happens in, so the owner, manager and tenants know what to expect.

Roots, grease and the point where repair comes in

LA Sanitation says more than half of sewer backups are caused by tree roots and poured fats, oils and grease.

Grease builds up inside a line, and cleaning is how it comes out. Roots can be cleared the same way, but they get in through joints and small openings in the pipe, and clearing them leaves those openings as they were. When a backup keeps returning to the same spot soon after cleaning, the pipe itself becomes the question, and that is where an assessment for repair or replacement starts.

Know what happens next

  1. Discuss and assess

Our goal is to identify the cause of the problem and recommend an appropriate repair based on the plumbing condition, accessibility, and scope of work.

  2. Findings and estimate

We assess the issue, explain our findings, and provide an estimate before any approved work begins.

  3. Work completed and confirmed

After approved work is completed, we test the repaired or installed plumbing where applicable, explain the completed work, and provide the customer or authorized contact with the appropriate service documentation.

Pricing depends on the plumbing condition, accessibility, materials, and actual scope of work. If additional work is discovered, it will be explained and approved before proceeding.
