Sewer Camera Inspection in Woodland Hills

Whether a Woodland Hills house is newer or decades old, Mr. Pipe Plumbing decides on a sewer camera inspection from what the line is doing. A newer house can still need one when the symptoms point to the line, and an older one may not need one if nothing has changed. Where a camera does make sense, we explain what it found and what we would do next.

In Woodland Hills

17% from 2000 on, 64% from before 1980

The Census Bureau's five-year survey ending in 2024 dates about 17% of homes to 2000 or later across the Woodland Hills ZIP-code areas. The same 2024 Census survey has about 64% predating 1980 and about 24% predating 1960, and more homes went up in the 1960s than in any other decade.

The 2024 Census survey also finds owners living in about 54% of occupied homes, and about 56% of homes are single-family houses. An owner-occupant can order an inspection on their own say-so; in rented homes and condo buildings, it goes through an owner, a manager or the HOA.

A newer house with a backup that keeps returning has a stronger case for an inspection than an older one that drains well and isn't changing hands.

From the first call to the results

We start with what the house is doing: where water backs up, whether more than one fixture is slow, and whether a cleaning has already been tried. Those answers, plus where the line can be reached, tell us whether a camera is worth running and how far it could see. If buildup blocks the view, the line may need cleaning first. For a condo, we work out access with the HOA or the manager. Tell us, too, whether you are buying the house or already live in it. When we finish, you get the results in plain terms and our view on what, if anything, the line needs.

When a sewer camera inspection is appropriate, we use specialized equipment to help evaluate accessible sections of a drain or sewer line and explain the findings.

Camera access and visibility depend on the condition of the line, available access points, and whether cleaning is required before inspection.

Does a house built after 2000 need a sewer inspection?

Age alone doesn't settle it. Census figures for 2024 put about 17% of Woodland Hills homes at 2000 or later, and a newer line still deserves a look if the main line backs up more than once, several fixtures slow together, or a clog returns soon after clearing. Buying with no history on the line is another reason.

Is a sewer scope worth it on a condo?

When nobody can tell you about the building's line, yes. The HOA or the manager is the one to ask first: which access points can be used, and what cleaning or repair the line has had. A camera evaluates only what it can reach, and a past repair that never found the cause of a problem is a good reason to look.

Should we wait for a backup before having the line scoped?

You don't have to. A backup is one reason, but so is buying or taking over a house whose line nobody can vouch for, or a past cleaning that never explained why the drains slowed. If none of that applies and the house drains well, we may tell you a camera can wait.

What LA Sanitation says is behind more than half of backups

LA Sanitation says more than half of sewer backups are caused by tree roots and by fats, oils and grease poured down drains. It also explains how the grease does its damage: poured down household drains, it cools, solidifies and sticks to the inside walls of sewer pipes, and over time the buildup restricts wastewater flow until it causes sewer overflows in homes.

Roots and grease buildup are two of the things a camera inspection helps us evaluate. When a backup keeps coming back, the inspection can show whether roots, grease or both are in the reachable part of the line, and the findings shape what comes next, such as cleaning or hydro jetting.

Know what happens next

  1. Discuss and assess

Our goal is to identify the cause of the problem and recommend an appropriate repair based on the plumbing condition, accessibility, and scope of work.

  2. Findings and estimate

We assess the issue, explain our findings, and provide an estimate before any approved work begins.

  3. Work completed and confirmed

After approved work is completed, we test the repaired or installed plumbing where applicable, explain the completed work, and provide the customer or authorized contact with the appropriate service documentation.

Pricing depends on the plumbing condition, accessibility, materials, and actual scope of work. If additional work is discovered, it will be explained and approved before proceeding.

“Extremely communicative, easy to work with, and did the job properly. Price was fair but I like that there was no BS surprise charges or addons ‑ what I was initially quoted was exactly what I paid. Will work with them again in the future.”
